Semaglutide (oral) is taken as a daily tablet, and is started low and increased in steps. There are 4 steps in the schedule. Where a step has another above it, at least 28 days must pass before an increase can be requested; the last step is the maintenance dose and has nothing above it.
This page describes the medication in general. What you were prescribed, and where you are in the schedule, is in the app.
Storing it
Keep it at 20–25 °C (68–77 °F).
- Keep the tablets in their original blister or bottle until you take them. Moisture is what damages them, which is also why the bathroom cabinet is the wrong place.
- Do not refrigerate them.
- Never use them past the expiry date on the pack.
Before you take it
- Take it first thing after waking, before you eat or drink anything else.
- Swallow it whole with no more than 120 ml (4 fl oz) of plain water. Not coffee, not juice, not a large glass of water — the absorption of this tablet depends on how much liquid is in the stomach with it.
- Do not split, crush or chew it.
Taking it
- Wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything else, or take any other tablet. Taking it with breakfast or with your other morning medicines is the single most common reason this molecule appears not to work.
- Take it at the same time every day, one tablet a day.
Afterwards
- If you miss a day, skip it entirely and take the next one at your usual time tomorrow. Do not take two in one day.
